On the news someone in SF got punched in the face on MUNI and had his iPhone stolen. I looked up local news websites and figured that since I couldn’t find a related article, it wasn’t worth worrying about. He used to warn me about crossing the street when I was young. I couldn’t walk to school unescorted until I was like 15. I think there was a story in the news then too.

Well, now, maybe there is some reason for concern. SF has seen 40+ cell phone muggings in November.

“First, I am showing you that I have a nice fancy phone,” said Brian Cooley, editor at large for Cnet. “And second, I am demonstrating that I do not have good situational awareness.”

I’ll be sure to tweet when no one is around.

"Most the stores I went to I just turned around and went back because the lines were out the door...."

“Most the stores I went to I just turned around and went back because the lines were out the door. He ran 6 times for 0 yards last Sunday against the Giants and left the game later with a bruised knee. Gore had a day’s rest, but I’m hoping he’ll get the week off. Hunter and Dixon are quality backs, and besides, the man deserves a break, finally.

(Offfensive coordiantor Greg) Roman said the Giants took “extreme measures” in stacking the box with personnel to stop the run? “Yeah man, it was crazy.”

Have you ever seen that before? “My whole career. (Laughter). … Not like that, man. It was 10 men in the box. They were coming to stop the run. We got it done, though. I still think we could have ran the ball pretty good. But it was a different game plan.Kendall did a great job. I wish I could have been out there. I think I still would have had a successful day if I continued playing.”

I don’t think hearing about him constantly will ever grow tiring for some fans. It makes me a little nostalgic. He played QB for the best college in the world, of course. But on the radio back home I heard the announcer talk about the spiral of his throws. He said it was the most perfect spiral he has ever seen on a football thrown by anybody. I thought it was a little of an overstatement. And when I got home and checked the Reddit gameday thread, I found this great facetious quote:

This guy, look at him call a timeout, his hands are perfectly perpendicular! Just incredible!

No one else will be getting this kind of attention for the rest of the season. Aaron Rodgers is just incredible.

Victim 1

Victim 1:

“This is not a case about football,” Noonan said. “It’s a case about children who have had their innocence stolen from them and the culture that did nothing to stop it.”

It is definitely not a case about football, though football has kept the issue alive on sports news and radio, and the love of it has appallingly blinded Penn State students who rioted against the firing of coach Joe Paterno. Sandusky is charged with 40 counts of sex abuse of minors over 15 years, and a series of missed opportunities and blatant failures by many individuals let this continue. It finally took the courage of one boy to bring this case to light. These adults, including Joe Paterno, did not do enough, and by supporting Paterno and his negligence, neither are Penn State students.

Arkham City Review

Arkham City Review:

Batman breaks legs, snaps arms, head-butts, throws elbows, and generally just kicks people’s asses. So it is a little strange that the game, staying true to Batman’s comic book ideation, makes so much of its hero’s refusal to take human life. Batman, punching someone in the spine as hard as you are capable of punching someone does not strike me as the modus operandi of a man with any particular interest in preserving human life.

I’d buy a ps3 or a new computer to play Arkham City.

gordyscamerastraps:

In some ways our parents see “success” and “independence” as synonyms, though no such conflation exists for many immigrants.

[…] I suspect that many young American adults who have to move in with their parents feel crummy about it. Most Russian immigrants I know do not.
INTERVIEWER

Finally, a fundamental question: as a creative writer what do you think is the function of your art? Why a representation of fact, rather than fact itself?

HEMINGWAY

Why be puzzled by that? From things that have happened and from things as they exist and from all things that you know and all those you cannot know, you make something through your invention that is not a representation but a whole new thing truer than anything true and alive, and you make it alive, and if you make it well enough, you give it immortality. That is why you write and for no other reason that you know of. But what about all the reasons that no one knows?
